Johnny Depp’s Interest in Muscle Shoals

The big news for the Shoals area is the talk of Johnny Depp’s production company, Infinitum Nihil, beginning the development of a television series based on Muscle Shoals, the critically acclaimed music documentary film released in 2013. According to multiple sources including al.comDeadline, Yellowhammer, and Variety, Infinitum Nihil is teaming up with Richard Branson’s company, Virgin Produced and City Entertainment, to highlight the rich music history of the Shoals area. They are shining a spotlight on the world renowned Fame Studio and Muscle Shoals Sound. Showing life behind the music and how many popular musicians have spent studio time gives us a closer look at how the music we love is made.

While there is no evidence that Johnny Depp is coming to the Shoals, having his company take interest in our community’s history and impact on music culture is really exciting.  It would not surprise me to find Muscle Shoals tending in the next week. I personally look forward to seeing episodes about the Rolling Stones, Elton John, and Willie Nelson recording at Muscle Shoals Sound and Aretha Franklin, Muscle Shoals Horns, and Trey Anastasio of Phish spending time at Fame.

Here’s the trailer to the film, Muscle Shoals (2013), the documentary on which the series will be based:
